Cancer

As part of its goal to promote and distribute evidence of knowledge, good practice and evidence-based policy and practice in men’s and boys’ health, GAMH has chosen cancer as one of its policy priorities.

Cancer is the second biggest killer of men world wide (after cardiovascular disease). It kills around 5.5 million men every year (about 56% of the total number of cancer deaths). This is a particularly important topic for GAMH as there is increasing evidence of many cancers (for example, bowel, prostate, thyroid, testicular, and kidney cancers) experiencing significant global increases in younger men.

GAMH has a separate workstream on HPV which addresses the cancers caused by the virus.

To support our cancer work, we have created a Cancer Advisory Group which will help to keep us informed of relevant developments in the field, advise us about which issues we should be prioritising in our policy work, review GAMH papers and reports on men and cancer before publication, and suggest the most effective strategy and tactics for our advocacy work.

The advisory group is drawn from the GAMH membership and other organisations that we work with closely on men and cancer.  Its current members are:
