Dr Tim Shand – policy consultant
Dr Tim Shand has worked to advance policy, practice and research on men’s and women’s sexual and reproductive health (SRH) for the last two decades. He was lead author of GAMH’s Out of Focus publication on policy gaps on men’s SRH, and is delighted to join the GAMH team as a consultant supporting global policy advocacy on men and SRH and on gender neutral vaccination for HPV.
Since 2020, Tim has been running his own business, ShandClarke Consulting, providing research, analysis, technical expertise and resource mobilisation guidance to charities and non-governmental organisations working on global health, development and gender equality. He is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Institute for Global Health and Development (IGHD) at Queen Margaret University, teaching and researching on men’s SRH needs. He recently founded a new UK charity, Men’s Sexual Health Matters, dedicated to understanding and advancing SRH issues for men. His PhD research focused on masculinities, gender equality and contraception in Malawi.
Tim has previously worked at the World Health Organization, International Planned Parenthood Federation, Sonke Gender Justice in South Africa, and Georgetown University’s Institute of Reproductive Health and Promundo (now Equimundo) in the United States. He has spoken and published widely on men, masculinities, gender equality and SRH. He lives in Hastings on the South coast with his partner, two children, dog and two cats.
